The next-best thing to being in Chicago

For those of us who weren't able to make it to Chicago last week for The Gospel Coalition conference, we can still listen and benefit from all the plenary and breakout sessions. Here's the full list with audio links:

SEMINARS
WORKSHOPS

Two workshops are available in video (as well as audio):
The rest of the sessions are available in audio only:
Three of the sessions are not available yet because of corrupt audio files:
  • Michael Bullmore, "The Functional Centrality of the Gospel"
  • Tim Savage, "Power in Weakness: The Heart of Gospel Ministry"
  • Scotty Smith, "A Biblical Theology of Worship: On Preference and Other Matters"
Well, that should fill up my MP3 player for a while.

  1. Stephen,

I noticed one of the speakers is Phil Ryken. I am using one of his books as I study Exodus. (From the "Preach the Word" series). It is very good.

  2. You might find the following blogs of interest about C.J. Mahaney and the group he leads:

    Hope this helps.

  3. Steve, The very names of your websites suggest you feel very strongly against Sovereign Grace Ministries. You act as though Mahaney and his ministry are a cult. I'm sorry to hear that.

Mahaney is a man of God and brother in Christ. The Bible teaches that all people are commanded to repent and believe, yet God has sovereignly and graciously chosen some people to salvation for His glory. Please take a look at Ephesians 2:1-10 as a classic text.

C.J. Mahaney certainly talks a good game but the reports of abuse that are going on in the group he leads certainly raises a number of questions. The moderator of one of the blogs indicates she has received emails with even more sad stories of abuse that the abused people are not wanting to share on these blogs.

Reading these stories are quite sad. It is also sad that other leaders that Mahaney associates with don't seem to be aware of or even want to look into what has been going on in this group.

  5. Steve,

God instructs us "not to receive an accusation against an elder except on the basis of two or three witnesses" (1 Tim. 5:19). I'm sorry, but I simply will not tolerate any further talk about Mahaney.

If you have a genuine concern, you are going about it the wrong way. Spreading unverified rumors across the internet is nothing more than slander, which is a deed of the flesh and sign of an unregenerate heart (Col. 3:7)

If it was just a few bringing up abuse they experienced when involved with Sovereign Grace Ministries then I question it. When I hear multiple reports across a number of their churches located in different cities then that makes me think there is a problem.

Mahaney is the leader of this group and is ultimately is responsible for what is going on in this organization.
